As well as continuing to work with Grace in the town and on the Long Mynd, we were having short, fun training sessions each day. I had already taught her the meaning of ‘close’ meaning – put your right shoulder next to my left leg and pay me full attention looking up at my face – but hadn’t yet taught her how to stay in this position as we walked forward.
I had also begun to teach her the names I had designated for the ‘other’ heelwork positions – eight positions in total. You will see seven of these positions demonstrated in the video – I forgot one of the two positions where she is behind me!
We had just started working on maintaining the ‘close’ position while moving forward in some of the heelwork positions.
I am aware that she is ‘leaning’ on my leg a little, but I would rather have a keen response to getting into position and coming ‘close’ at this stage. The ‘leaning on’ is easily fixed once she has more experience! She’s only a baby at 14 weeks in the video!
